The Tanto International School has a long tradition of making the most of enriching educational activities for our students. Located in a beautiful part of central Stockholm, the students have regular opportunities to develop interests and be inspired outside of the traditional classroom setting. The school believes that these opportunities form an essential part of a whole child's learning and can provide stimuli for other great teaching and learning activities. With more museums, galleries and exhibitions than most cities, Stockholm holds many educational treasures that are a must for our international students. The Tanto International School links many of these into its broad and varied curriculum as often as possible.
The school currently offers 3 residential trips:
In order to maximise the experience of Sweden for our international community, the school owns a small ski cabin in the Swedish mountain region of “Härjedalen”. The cabin is located in a village called “Bruksvallarna”. This is a popular ski resort because its proximity to one of Scandinavia’s largest cross country ski systems, Nordic Ski Centre and to a family friendly downhill ski resort called Ramundberget. It’s an area that offers lots of wildlife and it is home to a large community of Samis, some of whom make a living on their herds of reindeer and traditional crafts.
For more information about the area see “www.funasfjall.se”
Cross-Country Ski Trip
As a part of our school curriculum, our Year 6/7 class go on a residential cross-country trip each academic year. This trip is included in the school fee. During this 6 day trip, our students will learn to cross-country ski. The main objective however, is to offer a safe and secure environment to be away from your family. This is often the first time our students go away on their own. During the trip the students gain independence by looking after themselves, their belongings and taking care of all household chores themselves. Planning meals and recipes, cooking, washing up, cleaning etc are part of the learning process too. As a school, we also have links to the local community around the cabin such as the local school and museum. This trip is an annual highlight for our students and bring the students and teachers memories that last a lifetime.
Downhill Ski Trip
This is a very popular school trip where the children of Year 5 spend a week downhill skiing in northern Sweden with their teacher and other experienced staff from the school. This trip is optional and costs extra. However, the cost for the trip is set at a self-cost price. The group stays in the school’s ski cabin and have a wonderful time together. It’s a week full of adventures, outdoor experiences and socialising.
Another highlight for our Year 6/7 class is the annual trip to England. This is an optional trip which costs extra (again at self-cost price). This trip takes place towards the end of the Spring Term. Members of staff go along with any students interested in the trip. We stay in a small, simple hotel in an area south of London. Daily trips are organised to varying locations to offer a broad experience of activities. Normally we spend a day or two in London, one day in Brighton, one day in our partner school, Newlands Primary, and one day socialising locally - for example indoor climbing, bowling, playing and dining. Each year this is a fantastic experience which definitely will be remembered for a long time!
