Student Council at The Tanto International School is designed to allow all young children the chance to have a voice within their lives at school. Democracy plays a huge part in society and it is imperative that our young children, and future business or community leaders, understand the fundamental organisation and skills required for the democratic process to be effective.
In each class, at the beginning of the year, children nominate themselves as candidates . The rest of the class then has an opportunity to vote (privately) for the people they feel will represent their views best. Two candidates are elected in each class apart from the eldest class where the top three candidates will sit on the council. These three candidates prepare speeches and manifestos to deliver to the rest of the school who vote one of the three to be the School Council President.
Our children meet every week in class and then pass on information and discuss decisions with the Senior Teacher or the Principal on a regular basis.
